Malls and law enforcement collaborate to address shoplifting issue using advanced technology

Wilmorite is introducing new technology at The Mall at Greece Ridge to combat shoplifting. The technology includes license plate cameras that identify vehicles linked to past theft cases. When a known shoplifter tries to re-enter the property, an alert is sent to both the mall security office and the police station. This proactive approach aims to deter shoplifters and prevent theft on the premises.

According to Al D’Agostino, vice president and corporate security director at Wilmorite, the technology has already been successful at Eastview Mall in Victor, where it led to a 45% increase in shoplifting arrests. The cameras not only help identify known shoplifters but also provide valuable footage and pictures that can be used for further investigation by law enforcement agencies.

Apart from the technology, there is a Greece police officer assigned to The Mall at Greece Ridge, along with two Ontario County sheriff’s deputies assigned to Eastview Mall. This collaborative effort between mall security and law enforcement ensures a quick response in case of any incidents that may occur. By utilizing advanced technology and maintaining strong partnerships with local law enforcement agencies, Wilmorite is committed to providing visitors with a safe and secure shopping experience at their malls.
