Baker Hughes chosen to develop natural gas and hydrogen technology

In a major announcement on April 3, Baker Hughes revealed that it has been selected by Snam, an Italian energy infrastructure company, to supply turbines for compression that can operate on natural gas and gas blends with up to 10% hydrogen. This partnership will see Baker Hughes provide three NovaLT 12 gas turbine driven compressor trains for a gas compressor station in Sulmona, Italy. The new gas compressor station will play a key role in decarbonizing Snam’s gas network infrastructure as part of the Adriatic Line project.

The Adriatic Line project is an innovative initiative that aims to transport energy supplies from Azerbaijan, Africa, and the Eastern Mediterranean region to northern Europe via a 425-km long hydrogen-ready pipeline. This project will contribute significantly to the decarbonization of gas networks and enable the creation of a hydrogen economy in the region. Ganesh Ramaswamy, Executive Vice President of Industrial & Energy Technology at Baker Hughes, highlighted the importance of collaboration in developing technology solutions for decarbonizing energy ecosystems.

Ramaswamy emphasized Baker Hughes’ commitment to driving innovation and supporting the transition to clean energy sources. He stated that the NovaLT12 gas turbine technology is a testament to Baker Hughes’ efforts to provide sustainable solutions that meet the evolving needs of the energy industry. The partnership with Snam signifies a milestone in advancing the decarbonization of gas networks and accelerating the adoption of hydrogen as a viable energy source.

Baker Hughes has been at the forefront of developing technologies that meet the evolving needs of the energy industry. The company’s focus on sustainability is evident through its efforts towards providing cleaner and more efficient solutions for decarbonizing energy ecosystems. With its innovative technologies, such as its NovaLT12 gas turbine driven compressor trains, Baker Hughes continues to support companies like Snam in their quest towards creating a cleaner and more sustainable future.
