In 2023, public schools in Hawai’i received 10 grants worth more than $9,300 from the Bayer Fund- Hawaiʻi Science Education Grant. The recipients of these grants included Ewa Makai Middle School, H.P. Baldwin High School, ʻĪao School, ʻIlima Intermediate School, Kaimukī Middle School, Kīhei Charter School, Lahaina Intermediate School, Lahainaluna High School, and McKinley High School.

The funds awarded are aimed at supporting various STEM-related activities. Some of the projects include a macro propagation project, drone building program, hydroponics project, community garden, and the purchase of equipment and supplies for earth science, marine biology, life science, and forensic science classes.

The Bayer Fund grant program was established in 2005 with the goal of providing Hawai’i public schools with additional tools and resources to enhance science education. This initiative aims to inspire students to pursue careers in the sciences in the future.

The grant program is available twice a year and is open to public schools on Oahu
