Blazing into the Fourth: Hippie Grippie Fireworks and Safety Tips for a Fun and Safe July 4th Celebration in the Lowcountry

Fireworks stands across the Lowcountry are experiencing a surge in business as the July 4 holiday approaches. Hippie Grippie Fireworks, located near Goose Creek High School, is one such stand that has been operating in the area for almost 50 years, covering a total of 95 seasons combining the New Year’s Eve and Fourth of July holidays.

The business is family-run, with Grippie Lawson III, his brother, dad, and cousin all involved in running stands for various family members. Safety is a top priority at Hippie Grippie Fireworks. Grippie urged customers to avoid holding fireworks with their hands, except for sparklers, emphasizing the importance of having fun while staying safe. Every year, people get hurt from mishandling fireworks, which can be easily prevented by following safety guidelines and precautions.

Chief Bob Maibach of the Goose Creek Rural Fire Department shared his observations of injuries caused by people not handling fireworks properly. He advised individuals to be mindful of their surroundings and use common sense when lighting fireworks to prevent accidents and injuries. Maibach stressed that fireworks are designed for celebration and enjoyment but must be used responsibly.

For those who prefer to watch fireworks rather than set them off themselves, there are many July 4 fireworks celebrations happening throughout the area. Details about these events can be found by clicking on the provided link.
