Exploring Dr. Raven’s Journey in STEM: The Science Maven’s Path to Success | Nebraska Today

Raven Baxter, a trained molecular biologist and science educator, will be speaking at the Nebraska Union Swanson Auditorium at 3:30 p.m. on April 3. Baxter, also known as Dr. Raven the Science Maven to her 200,000-plus followers, has a mission to democratize science and bridge the gap between complex scientific concepts and the general public. Her hip-hop science videos went viral and led her to start the Black in SciComm and Black in STEM Education movements. She now leads the Science Haven, a nonprofit organization dedicated to making science engaging for everyone, regardless of their scientific knowledge or background.

The event is free and open to the public. Baxter will be joined by Jocelyn Bosley, research impact coordinator in the Office of Research and Economic Development, for a relaxed conversation about her STEM journey, the challenges and opportunities in creating a more diverse and inclusive STEM community, and creative strategies for making science appealing and relevant to a broader audience.

This event is sponsored by Nebraska EPSCoR with additional support from the School of Biological Sciences, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, and the Center for Science, Math
