In recent news, World Athletics has ratified two new world records set by women. Firstly, Devynne Charlton from the Bahamas broke the world indoor 60m hurdles record in Glasgow on 3 March 2024 with a time of 7.65. This achievement earned her the global title at the World Athletics Indoor Championships and she previously shared the record with Tia Jones from the United States. Charlton expressed how meaningful this achievement was to her and thanked her hard work both on and off the track for her success.
Secondly, Peres Jepchirchir from Kenya set a new women-only world marathon record of 2:16:16 at the TCS London Marathon on 21 April 2024. The field for this race was highly competitive and breaking Mary Keitany’s previous record was a major goal for runners. Jepchirchir managed to achieve this feat, finishing ahead of her competitors to claim the world record. Her victory marked the first time that four women had finished a marathon in under 2:17, showcasing the high level of competition in the race.
