Rebecca Adlington, the double Olympic gold medalist, believes that Adam Peaty’s return to the podium was unexpected due to his focus on peaking at the Olympics. She spoke on BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast and stated that Peaty is in a great position to achieve his goals and wants to peak in the summer for the Olympics. Adlington is confident in the quality of the British team and believes that they have enough talent to secure “a handful of medals” in Paris.
While Peaty is seen as the poster boy of swimming, Adlington highlighted other fantastic medallists on the team, including Matt Richards, Tom Dean, and Duncan Scott. She emphasized that people are rooting for Peaty to succeed but also gave credit to the other swimmers for their phenomenal achievements. Without Adam Peaty, the other swimmers would be seen as poster boys, but Adlington believes that they are all part of a talented British swimming team that is in great shape overall.
