COAST recently held two successful health fairs in the early summer, aimed at providing older residents with the resources and information they need to manage their health. The first fair took place on May 31 at the Madisonville Activity Center and was attended by approximately 90 individuals. The second fair was held on June 14 at the Slidell Activity Center and attracted over 100 people.
Both events featured a variety of vendors specializing in different aspects of health and wellness. Attendees had the opportunity to participate in health screenings, receive massage therapy, access mental health support, gather community resource information, and engage in interactive fitness demonstrations. Chef Jeff Mattia from Pyre BBQ also showcased cooking demonstrations, emphasizing the benefits of anti-inflammatory foods and providing healthy food samples for guests.
Participants were entered into raffles for door prizes that promote healthy living, such as Instant Pots and Magic Bullet blenders. Everyone who attended the health fairs received a COAST backpack filled with giveaways and informational materials. These events allow older adults to proactively manage their health, acquire valuable knowledge, and establish connections with local resources and community support.
Thank you to all who participated and contributed to the success of these health fairs. Keep an eye out for future events like this from COAST. For more information about COAST, visit their website at www.coastseniors.org or contact them at (985) 892-0377
