Ecuador’s justice system releases dangerous criminals with help from judges, police officers, and lawyers

The Ecuadorian Prosecutor’s Office conducted raids and arrests of judges, former judges, judicial officials, practicing lawyers, and police officers in eight provinces of the country on Wednesday. These individuals are being investigated for facilitating the release of dangerous criminals through legal maneuvers and abuse of the law. The operations took place in the provinces of El Oro, Azuay, Manabí, Pichincha, Chimborazo, Tungurahua, Guayas, and Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas. The prosecution specified that the raids were related to organized crime, illicit enrichment, and influence peddling across various sectors.

The goal of these actions is to root out corruption within the justice system that has become a vicious circle of illegal activities.
