The world of darts is preparing for a major shakeup as 16-time champion Phil Taylor, also known as “the Power,” announced that his final year on the World Senior Darts Tour will be in 2024. Taylor initially retired from the sport in 2018 but returned to competitive darts last year after making the final of the PDC World Championship.
Despite his age, Taylor remains passionate about performing and has enjoyed a glittering career on the oche over the past 35 years. He expressed his gratitude for the fans who have supported him throughout his journey and is determined to give them what they want during his final year on tour.
The World Senior Darts Tour consists of 11 events, including the World Senior Darts Championship at the Circus Tavern in February, and Taylor aims to go out on a high in 2024. Billy Lovell, director of World Senior Darts Tour, praised Taylor as one of the UK’s greatest sportspeople and expressed gratitude for his decision to come out of retirement at the beginning of the project. Lovell also highlighted that he anticipated that Taylor’s final year on tour would be enjoyable.
Taylor’s legacy will live on long after he hangs up his darts as he continues to be a global ambassador for darts around the world. Fans can expect an exciting finale to one of darts history’s greatest careers when they gather at Circus Tavern next February for what promises to be an unforgettable event.
