In an effort to support and enhance the vital work carried out by local self-defense units across the country, Defense Minister Yoav Galant has approved a series of measures aimed at improving the work conditions of these units. Unfortunately, the Finance Ministry has blocked their employment as civilian workers within the IDF. In response, the Defense Ministry will increase payments to municipalities that will be used to raise the salaries of local self-defense unit commanders and create new positions for their deputies.
Additionally, the minister has approved programs for training and retraining commanders and a project for acquiring equipment, ammunition, and weapons for self-defense units. These measures are part of ongoing efforts to address issues related to employment conditions, salaries, and equipment for commanders in order to strengthen the capabilities and readiness of these units to respond effectively to security challenges in their communities.
The approval of these measures underscores the government’s commitment to supporting local self-defense units and ensuring that they have the resources and support needed to fulfill their important role in safeguarding their communities. By addressing these critical issues related to employment conditions, salaries, and equipment for commanders, the Defense Ministry is taking proactive steps to ensure that local self-defense units are well-equipped and prepared to carry out their duties effectively.
