On Tuesday, a New York appeals court ruled that Rudy Giuliani, the former personal lawyer to ex-President Donald Trump, has been disbarred “effective immediately” due to his actions in promoting baseless claims of election fraud in the 2020 elections. The court removed Giuliani’s name from the roll of attorneys and counselors-at-law in the State of New York, preventing the 80-year-old former New York City mayor from practicing law in the state.
The appeals court’s ruling criticized Giuliani for making “false and misleading statements to courts, lawmakers, and the public at large” as part of his representation of Trump and the Trump campaign during the 2020 election. The court noted that Giuliani’s behavior had contributed to the national strife that followed the 2020 election.
