First Annual Open House Planned for WLU Zoo Science Program

West Liberty University’s Zoo Science program is set to host its first annual open house on April 4th from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Arnett Hall. The event is open to students, faculty, staff, and the community, and visitors will have the chance to explore the program’s various aspects through a series of stations featuring animal interactions, demonstrations, and student research. At the end of the tour, attendees will be entered into a drawing to win prizes.

The Zoo Science major students and faculty are excited to showcase their program to the community during this event. Lauren Mort, WLU’s Animal Care Specialist, expressed her enthusiasm for the open house, emphasizing the importance of connecting with the community and showcasing what they do. She hopes that it will help raise awareness about the program and its opportunities for students.

Matthew Shuttleworth, who is both an event coordinator and lab mentor for Zoo Science at WLU shared his passion for maintaining the animal collection at the university while also highlighting how valuable experience it gives to students through this unique curriculum offered by WLU that prepares them for employment in various fields such as zoo and conservation facilities, wildlife rehabilitation centers, federal or state conservation agencies as well as graduate schools in ecological or conservation science.
