China Dominates Night 1 with Two Medals

The 2024 World Aquatic Championships in Doha kicked off with China leading the medal table. The Chinese women’s 400 freestyle saw Li Bingjie win silver, while the Chinese men’s 4×100 free relay team captured gold, with Pan Zhanle setting a new World Record. South Korea, the Netherlands, and New Zealand each have one gold medal.

On Day 1 of the competition, the Netherlands won the women’s 4×100 free relay, upsetting the Australians who had previously held the title. New Zealand’s Erika Fairweather also made history by winning the women’s 400 freestyle in a new national record. Australia and Germany are currently tied for second place on the medal table with two medals each, both countries winning silver and bronze in various events.
