The preliminary round of the 2024 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championships kicked off in Czechia on Friday. Two Flyers players, winger Joel Farabee for Team USA and goaltender Samuel Ersson for Team Sweden, are participating in the tournament.
On Saturday, Team Sweden faced Poland in Ostrava and emerged victorious with a 3-1 win. Ersson served as the starting goaltender for Sweden. Farabee did not play in the match.
The following day, Team USA defeated Germany 6-1 in Ostrava. Farabee, playing alongside Shane Pinto and Ryan Leonard, logged over 14 minutes of ice time and recorded two shots on goal. The team is scheduled to face Slovakia next, followed by matches against France, Poland, Kazakhstan, and Austria.
Team Sweden had a rest day on Sunday and will face France next. Their upcoming schedule includes games against Germany, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Poland, Slovakia and Canada. The other grouping in the preliminary round includes Finland
