From Backyard Paste Time to Professional Cornhole Pro: The Inspiring Journey of Fort Collins Pro Yetty Irwan

In recent years, cornhole has evolved from a casual backyard pastime to a highly competitive professional sport. Fort Collins, Colorado is home to two American Cornhole League (ACL) pros, including Yetty Irwan, who is one of the few women professionals in the game. Irwan’s journey to becoming a pro was unique as she never played games like cornhole growing up in Indonesia. In fact, it wasn’t until seven years ago when her husband set up a board in their basement that she began to play.

Despite coming from a scientific background with a degree in experimental pathology, Irwan transitioned into becoming a professional cornhole player after becoming eligible to go pro with the ACL in 2019. With the support of sponsors who cover her travel expenses to tournaments across the country, Irwan competes at local venues like the Underground in Greeley and aims to win a national title in cornhole.

But Irwan’s dedication to the sport goes beyond just competing. She is also committed to growing the sport and mentoring younger players like Colt Kenner, an 10-year-old who is quickly gaining recognition locally. Additionally, Irwan has helped promote cornhole globally by assisting in starting the sport in Indonesia last year.

In Fort Collins and beyond, Irwan hopes to continue helping beginners improve their skills through clinics and support. Her enthusiasm for the growth of cornhole both locally and internationally is evident through her involvement with younger players and global initiatives. And while she may be new to some of us here on this side of the world, there’s no denying that Yetty Irwan is making an impact on the world of cornhole as we know it today!
