The current global forced displacement crisis has prompted a call to collective action that emphasizes the importance of self-reliance in providing sustainable solutions for refugees, forcibly displaced individuals, and stateless people. These populations face crucial challenges in meeting their essential needs, working, using their skills, and contributing to local economies. To address these challenges, the Mega Pledge on Economic Inclusion and Social Protection has been launched with the aim of mobilizing commitments from various stakeholders to advance self-reliance and promote economic inclusion and social protection for these populations as well as host communities.
The pledge seeks to overcome specific and structural barriers and risks that hinder the self-reliance of refugees, forcibly displaced individuals, and stateless people by strengthening resilience to shocks. It highlights the need for inclusive legal and policy frameworks that promote economic inclusion and social protection, including the implementation of policies and programs to reduce the lifelong consequences of poverty and exclusion. Pledge commitments are backed by evidence and supported by relevant programs, technical assistance, and financing mechanisms.
By empowering refugees, forcibly displaced individuals, stateless people, and host communities to make decisions about their futures whether they stay in their country of asylum or origin or move to another or return home is an ultimate goal of this initiative.
