GASF recognizes outstanding high school athletes in the Austin area

On Wednesday, three outstanding high school athletes from the Austin area were recognized by the Greater Austin Sports Foundation for their achievements both on and off the field.

Neliaj Deleon, a senior goalkeeper from Georgetown, led the Eagles to a 22-1-4 season and a spot in the regional tournament this weekend. She was also named to last year’s Class 5A all-state tournament team and will continue her soccer career at Vanderbilt next season.

Josiah Moseley, a standout basketball player from Stony Point, was named the 2023 Central Texas boys basketball player of the year as a junior. In his senior year, he led the Tigers to their first-ever appearance in the Class 6A state championship game, finishing the season with a record of 38-2. Moseley was named Gatorade’s Texas boys basketball player of the year and will be playing for Villanova next season.

Savannah Skopal, a senior setter from Rouse, was recognized for her outstanding performance on the volleyball court. Skopal was named to the all-state volleyball team for all four years of her high school career and finished her senior season with impressive stats: 1,586 assists, 386 digs, 157 kills, 74 aces, and 70 blocks. She will continue her volleyball career at Rice University.
