Lakewood Church shooting officers to receive mental health support

In the aftermath of the Lakewood Church shooting, where a gunman opened fire in the church’s lobby, resulting in a shootout between the suspect and law enforcement, Houston Police Department (HPD) officers have been provided with mental health care to support their well-being. The HPD officer involved in the shooting and responding officers will have access to peer support teams from the department and union as well as any necessary psychological treatment.

The union has also reached out to Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) officers involved in the shooting to offer mental health resources. It is essential to provide resources and support for law enforcement officers who are exposed to traumatic and high-stress situations like this one.

Both officers involved in the Lakewood Church shooting have been placed on administrative leave while an investigation is ongoing. The step taken by HPD leaders is crucial for ensuring that they receive the necessary support and care during this time.

In conclusion, it is vital that we prioritize not only the physical safety but also the mental health and well-being of our law enforcement officers who put themselves on the line every day to protect us. Providing them with adequate resources and support during difficult times can make all the difference in their recovery process.
