Extended intersection closure causes frustration for Saginaw businesses

Construction has caused major disruptions for a mid-Michigan ice cream shop in Saginaw. On Monday, March 25, the intersection of Sheridan Avenue and Hess Avenue closed unexpectedly due to reconstruction work. This closure, which is expected to last until August 9, has caused concerns for both commuters and businesses located at the intersection.

Fred Temple, an employee at the family-owned Hand Dipped Ice Cream, arrived at work to find hard hats and orange barrels due to the construction project that started on the street. Despite the challenges posed by the closure, Temple is still encouraging people to visit Hand Dipped Ice Cream for their delicious treats. Along with ice cream, the shop also offers tacos and tostadas for customers to enjoy.

The closure has impacted the flow of traffic, with the city urging residents to find alternate routes to their destinations. Temple believes the closure will deter customers from visiting the shop, especially during the upcoming Fourth of July celebrations. However, he remains optimistic that once construction is complete and traffic returns to normal, business will pick up again.

In addition to the intersection closure on Sheridan Avenue and Hess Avenue, Gratiot Avenue (M-46) is also closed between Malzahn Street and Wheeler Street for utility work until Friday afternoon, March 29. The combination of these closures is creating disruptions for businesses and residents in Saginaw.
