After nine months of military offensive and siege, Israeli authorities have started connecting a desalination plant in the Gaza Strip to their electricity grid. This move is aimed at providing drinking water to the enclave and promoting hygiene and disease prevention for the safety of soldiers and hostages. The desalination plant has been restarted by the Gaza Electricity Company in the Saladin Road area.
However, Israel’s Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, has criticized this decision, stating that they are rehabilitating Gaza before disarmament, especially focusing on hospitals, which he referred to as centers of terrorism. He urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to rethink this strategy.
The conflict between Israel and Palestine has led to a humanitarian crisis in Gaza due to the military offensive and siege imposed by Israel after attacks by Hamas and other Palestinian factions.
