A Lufthansa passenger plane carrying almost 340 people was forced to return to Frankfurt am Main on Thursday due to an unusual smell on board. The Boeing 747-8 was en route to Chicago in the USA when the incident occurred.
The company announced that the reason for the unscheduled landing was an unidentifiable electrical smell in the cabin. Despite the smell, there was no smoke on board and the cause of the odor remains unknown. Technicians inspected the plane upon its safe landing in Frankfurt to determine the source of the smell.
The 320 passengers and 19 crew members disembarked from the plane as usual and were scheduled to continue their journey with a replacement plane later that evening. Lufthansa emphasized that the decision to return to Frankfurt was made as a precaution to ensure the safety of all passengers and crew members. The well-being of those on board is always the airline’s top priority. According to reports from passengers cited by “Bild,” the smell appeared 90 minutes after takeoff while the plane was over the Atlantic Ocean.
