A minor fire broke out on the largest cruise ship in the world, the Icon of the Seas, while it was on a week-long Western Caribbean cruise. The incident happened in Costa Maya, Mexico and caused the ship to briefly lose power. However, the fire was quickly put out without any injuries.
The vessel was on a week-long Western Caribbean cruise that departed from Miami, Florida. Despite the minor blaze, the backup power system prevented any deviations from the ship’s itinerary. Since its maiden voyage in January, the Icon of the Seas has encountered a few incidents.
Just a month prior to this fire incident, another young passenger fell to his death during a drunken altercation with his father on a different Royal Caribbean cruise ship. In May, a passenger jumped off the ship while en route to Honduras and unfortunately, his remains have not been found.
Royal Caribbean has not yet issued a statement regarding these incidents.
