Maria Regina High School Celebrates First-ever Science Fair: Fostering Intellectual Curiosity and Scientific Inquiry among Students

Maria Regina High School in Hartsdale recently hosted its first-ever Science Fair, which featured 274 scientific topics explored by students. The two-day exhibition took place at the school’s iconic Hartsdale campus, where students presented their projects demonstrating critical thinking, innovation, and intellectual curiosity. The presentations were judged by members of Maria Regina’s science department faculty, as well as distinguished alumnae and former faculty members.

The principal, Maria Carozza-McCaffrey (’99), congratulated the winners and participants for their hard work and achievements. She highlighted the tremendous interest and talent Maria Regina’s students have in the sciences as demonstrated by the Science Fair. Reena Varna (P’17), chairperson of the Science Department, emphasized the importance of students learning to think like scientists, ask relevant questions, research, experiment, and present their findings.

Varna also acknowledged the underrepresentation of women in STEM fields and the impact of the environment on girls’ interest and achievement in math and science. At Maria Regina, the goal is to create a growth mindset among students, and the science symposium serves as a step towards achieving that goal. The success of the inaugural Science Fair reflects the dedication and hard work put in by the students at Maria Regina High School.
