In a major project that aims to enhance the efficiency and quality of copper production, Freeport-McMoRan has awarded Metso an order for the delivery of a tankhouse material handling solution to their El Paso electrorefinery in Texas, US. With a value exceeding €10 million, Metso’s scope of delivery includes Outotec Anode Preparation and Cathode Stripping Machines, both based on proven designs ensuring high safety and long-term reliability.
The modernization of the existing refinery will require efficient material handling to optimize layout and productivity. To meet this requirement, both machines will utilize modern robotic electrode handling technology. This combination of Metso’s long-term experience in similar equipment with modern robot technology is expected to deliver significant improvements in material handling efficiency.
