Yankees acquire INF Jon Berti from Marlins following DJ LeMahieu’s foot injury

In 2023, Jon Berti had a standout year and is now a member of the New York Yankees. The team quickly addressed the absence of DJ LeMahieu due to injury by acquiring Berti from the Miami Marlins. This move came shortly after it was announced that LeMahieu would start the season on the injured list with a bruised foot.

Berti recently had a remarkable season with the Marlins, contributing to their unexpected playoff run. His batting average of .294, on-base percentage of .344, and slugging percentage of .405 earned him a career-best 103 OPS+. Additionally, he played five different positions with the majority of his time spent at shortstop and third base. The Yankees did not give up top prospects for Berti in the trade.
