On Monday, the Jets made a significant change to their starting quarterback by benching Zach Wilson in favor of Tim Boyle. The team also announced that Trevor Siemian, who had been on the practice squad since signing with the team, will serve as Boyle’s backup. Siemian was officially signed to the team’s active roster on Tuesday. In addition to these moves, the team added cornerback Craig James to the practice squad.

Despite having some experience as a starter, having filled in for an injured Sam Darnold in a game for the Jets in 2019 and starting games for several other teams including Bengals, Bears and Saints, Siemian suffered an ankle injury early in that game and missed the rest of the season. He has a total of 24 games as a starter for the Broncos in 2016 and 2017. However, he has less experience than Boyle who is younger but will be given a chance to start for now by the Jets.
