Egypt increases wheat reserves to last 6.6 months

The Egyptian Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade has announced that its strategic wheat reserve has increased to 6.6 months, after supplying 3.551 million tons of local wheat. The ministry stated that some wheat receiving sites are still in operation in certain governorates, with supply operations expected to continue until July 15, reaching 3.6 million tons.

Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Dr. Ali Al-Moselhi, mentioned that EGP 45 billion has been paid to suppliers and farmers, and all dues have been settled. He attributed the exceeding of targeted quantities of local wheat supply to newly reclaimed lands in Toshka and East El-Oweinat, as well as cooperation between all involved parties.

The minister highlighted the full capacity operation of sites still receiving local wheat, emphasizing that the rise in wheat supply prices this year has facilitated the increase in supply operations. He commended the efforts of various organizations involved in the wheat supply chain.

Assistant Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Ahmed Kamal, emphasized the smooth functioning of supply operations this season, with payments being processed promptly and without any reported issues. The central operations room at the ministry has not received any complaints, indicating effective management of the supply season.
