The Ministry of Transport is seeking proposals for two pilot projects in Israel that will tackle the problem of traffic jams by introducing new modes of transport. These projects include a trackless train and a sea shuttle, both aimed at reducing the burden on the country’s roads.
Interested entrepreneurs, both Israeli and foreign, are invited to submit details on their proposed sea transport options. Companies must provide information on minimum speed requirements (at least 30 knots), passenger capacity (at least 100), and comfort levels. Sea shuttles will operate between ports and docks constructed in cities such as Ashkelon, Ashdod, Netanya, Jaffa, Tel Aviv, Hadera, Haifa, and Acre.
The proposed “wheel trains” are based on successful models in China and will be operated by existing public transport companies. Minister of Transport Miri Regev stated that she had initiated these projects during her previous term but progress had halted upon its conclusion. She is now focused on resuming work on these innovative transportation solutions, aiming to enhance mobility in Israel, introduce new convenient options for passengers, and reduce travel times between different parts of the country.
