RINA Grants Approval in Principle to Kindon New Energy Technology Co. for New Energy Technology

Kindon New Energy Technology (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. has been granted the Approval in Principle (AiP) by RINA, a multinational company specializing in inspection, certification, ship classification, and engineering consultancy. The AiP confirms that the green methanol produced by the offshore production platform solution adheres to the highest standards of sustainability.

The CEO of Kindon New Energy, Wenbo Wang, explained that the production process involves using green hydrogen, renewable CO2 captured through Direct Air Capture (DAC), and sustainable electricity to synthesize methanol. This concept offers a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels and contributes to the global effort to reduce carbon emissions.

RINA’s Greater China Marine Operations Director, Luigi Mattera, emphasized the importance of supporting decarbonization technologies and highlighted the significance of using DAC technology to produce green methanol offshore. The offshore production platform developed by Kindon New Energy is designed to produce 0.1 million metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) of green methanol. The electricity needs are met by green power generated from offshore wind farms.

RINA expressed their satisfaction in awarding Kindon New Energy the AiP for their innovative production platform. They underscored its role in promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly practices in the marine and offshore industries.

In summary, RINA has granted an AiP to Kindon New Energy for its groundbreaking green methanol offshore production platform solution. The platform produces methanol entirely offshore using renewable CO2 and green hydrogen generated from wind power electrolysis technology. The CEO of Kindon New Energy explained that they use DAC technology to produce green methanol offshore, which is a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. RINA emphasized the importance of supporting decarbonization technologies and highlighted DAC’s significance in producing sustainably sourced methanol on an offshore platform.
