Temporary Closure of Spot Coffee on East Ave. Due to Health Code Violations

The popular coffee shop on East Avenue in Rochester, Spot Coffee, has been temporarily closed by the Monroe County Health Dept. due to multiple health code violations. On Feb. 9, the establishment was ordered to shut down and all food operations were ceased in connection with the NY State Sanitary Code. According to a sign on the door, these violations include a “critical violation” related to food from an “unapproved source,” which was spoiled or adulterated on-premises. Other violations involved issues such as food not being protected from potential sources of contamination and lack of effective measures to control rodents and insects entering the restaurant.

Spot Coffee’s District Operations Manager, Peter Kervin, stated that the company is taking these recent reports very seriously and has taken immediate action to address them. The company is working with pest control services and implementing thorough cleaning and sanitation procedures in order to rectify the situation and prevent any future occurrences of these violations. Spot Coffee is fully cooperating with the county health department and appreciates the community’s understanding and patience as they work towards resolving this matter. Unfortunately, there has been no immediate word on when Spot will reopen its doors once again.
