Johnson Elementary in Rockford, Illinois celebrated a unique Valentine’s Day thanks to a heartwarming mission that started with a special post made by staff in January. The school’s kindergarten teacher, Kaitlyn Graham, explained that they initiated a project called Hearts Around The World and made a Facebook post requesting people to send valentines.
On February 13, the staff and students at Johnson Elementary gathered to share the progress of their mission to collect valentines. Tina Szymanski, a teacher at the school, was overwhelmed by the feedback and support they received. She described the project as a group effort and mentioned that it has been exciting to watch the kids open the valentines, especially since many of them were from the students’ families, making it extra special.
The teachers created a map in the kindergarten hallway and placed a heart sticker on the state or country from where the valentines were sent. Staff members shared that they were still waiting to receive valentines from two states, Rhode Island and Oklahoma, before February 14. The heartwarming project brought joy and excitement to the students at Johnson Elementary, making their Valentine’s Day celebration extra special.
