On the night of April 27, Russian troops launched a combined missile strike on Ukraine, using a total of 34 air, ground, and sea-based missiles in the attack. The Russian military targeted various types of missiles such as cruise missiles, guided air missiles, anti-aircraft missiles, aeroballistic missiles, and others.
The Ukrainian Air Force commander Nikolai Oleshchuk confirmed the attack to Meduza. According to Ukrainian sources, 21 Russian missiles were destroyed during the attack. One woman was injured during the shelling in Kharkov when the third psychiatric hospital was hit by S-300 missiles. The hospital buildings suffered significant damage to windows, roofs, and interior decorations.
Russian forces also targeted energy infrastructure in several regions including Lviv, Dnepropetrovsk, and Ivano-Frankivsk. Several thermal power plants owned by DTEK were attacked in Lviv and Dnepropetrovsk regions leading to destruction and fires at some facilities resulting in injuries among employees at the targeted energy facilities. In Ivano-Frankivsk region two critical energy infrastructure facilities were targeted causing fires but no residential infrastructure was damaged and there were no reported injuries. Overall the combined missile strike by Russian troops had severe consequences on various regions in Ukraine with destruction of hospitals and energy facilities among other things.
