Scarlett Johansson in discussions for lead role in upcoming ‘Jurassic World’ film

Scarlett Johansson, who has had a successful career in both the superhero and non-superhero genres, is currently in talks to star in Universal’s new Jurassic World movie. The film is set to be released on July 2, 2025 and will be directed by Gareth Edwards with a script written by David Koepp.

Johansson’s return to the world of franchises comes after her previous roles as Black Widow in various Marvel Studios films, including the Avengers series. Despite her success in superhero genre, Johansson has also made a name for herself in other projects, earning two Oscar nominations for her roles in Marriage Story and JoJo Rabbit. She is also set to voice a character in the upcoming animated feature Transformers One and will appear in a big-budget Apple feature alongside Channing Tatum, both scheduled for release this year.

The Jurassic World franchise has been ongoing for 30 years, starting with Steven Spielberg’s 1993 hit film Jurassic Park, based on Michael Crichton’s novel. This was followed by a sequel, The Lost World, directed by Spielberg in 1997 and Jurassic Park III helmed by Joe Johnston. Universal revived the franchise with Jurassic World in 2015 which grossed $1.67 billion at the box office and was followed by sequels Fallen Kingdom in 2018 and Dominion in 2022. The most recent trilogy of films was led by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard under the direction of filmmaker Colin Trevorrow
