Connecticut and Purdue shake up college basketball poll rankings

The USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll has undergone some significant changes following a week of intense action in men’s basketball. Despite the fact that the defending champions, Connecticut Huskies, have lost a game, they maintain their position as the top team in the rankings. Purdue Boilermakers have climbed up to second place after an impressive performance.

Houston has made a remarkable comeback and is now ranked third, with just 12 points separating them from the next four teams. Marquette has jumped up to fourth position after an impressive run, while North Carolina has slipped to fifth after losing to Clemson. Arizona and Kansas have also seen their positions change, with Arizona moving up to sixth and Kansas falling to seventh.

The top 10 is rounded out by Duke, Tennessee, and Iowa State. South Carolina is making a strong case for a spot in the top 10 after jumping nine places, while Kentucky and Wisconsin have been moving in opposite directions. After losing four games in a row, Wisconsin has dropped 12 places, and Kentucky has fallen five spots following three consecutive home losses.

Indiana State has made an exciting entry into the poll at number 24, marking their first ranking since their historic 1979 season. Saint Mary’s, Oklahoma, Virginia, and Colorado State have also regained positions in the rankings after being recent dropouts such as Utah State, San Diego State
