As Valentine’s Day approaches, the Tulsa Health Department’s substance abuse prevention program and the StopDUI Task Force are urging residents who drink alcohol to do so responsibly and safely, or to try a fun mocktail instead. On Friday, February 9th, these organizations will collaborate to present a Facebook Live mocktail tutorial for Valentine’s Day. THD Prevention Specialist Kandice Lawson and Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Eric Kirby will share delicious recipes for festive drinks that can be prepared at home for the holiday.
There are several mocktails that can be enjoyed on Valentine’s Day instead of alcohol. One such recipe is the Circus of Love, which features a carbonated beverage mixed with marshmallow fluff and sprinkles for a sweet treat that everyone can enjoy. To make this drink, simply roll the rim of a glass in marshmallow fluff, dip it in sprinkles, pour in the carbonated beverage and stir in some cotton candy until well combined.
Another option is the Stop in the Name of Love, which combines sparkling hibiscus red grape juice with lemon-lime soda and orange juice for a refreshing drink that’s perfect for sipping on Valentine’s Day. To make this drink, simply add ice, sparkling hibiscus red grape juice, lemon-lime soda, orange juice and several crushed candy hearts to a glass full of crushed ice before garnishing with an orange wheel.
For those who want something a little more fruity on their special day, Kandi-Coated Punch is sure to hit the spot. This punch is made by combining pineapple juice with strawberries and raspberries with Sprite and Simply Lemonade with Raspberry Juice before serving over ice. It’s easy to make and perfect for sharing at any Valentine’s Day gathering.
