27,000 Gulf Standards and Technical Regulations

The Arab Organization for Standardization and Metrology was founded on March 25, 1968, in Cairo. This year, the organization is celebrating its anniversary by promoting the theme of “Standardization for a prosperous economy and a vibrant and sustainable society.” Saud bin Nasser Al-Khasibi, Chairman of the GCC Standardization Organization, highlighted the importance of standardization in enhancing lifestyles, improving quality of life, ensuring safety and sustainability, and promoting sustainability.

Al-Khasibi emphasized that standardization plays a crucial role in establishing legislation, regulations, and standard specifications to promote environmentally responsible practices. The GCC Standardization Organization has been working with national standardization bodies in member states and international and regional organizations to develop Gulf standard specifications and technical regulations. Over 27 thousand Gulf standards and technical regulations have been issued to date, covering various goods and products.

Standardization activities are essential in elevating the quality of goods, products, and services while promoting healthy competition. It also ensures safety and quality standards while supporting national products. Technical barriers can be reduced through standardization activities while facilitating trade exchange. Furthermore, standardization contributes to sustainability by preparing legislation for environmentally responsible practices while protecting the environment through waste reduction, energy efficiency improvement, and clean energy promotion.

Al-Khasibi announced that the organization is now coordinating with member states on implementing technical regulations to conserve water resources while ensuring their sustainability. He expressed gratitude towards international organizations such as the Arab Organization for Industrial Development (ARIDIM), regional organizations such as the Arab Industrial Development Centre (AIDC), national organizations involved in standardization activities such as Saudi Arabia’s National Standards Authority (NSAA) among others for their efforts in this field.
