Owner of Funeral Home in Morgan County Speaks Out After Radar-Confirmed Tornado Destroys Business

On Tuesday afternoon, a radar-confirmed tornado touched down near Sunbright, causing significant damage to several businesses, including Schubert Funeral Home. The National Weather Service reported no injuries, but the funeral home suffered extensive damage.

Billy Glen Kennedy, the owner of Schubert Funeral Home, received a call from a friend informing him that the funeral home had been destroyed by the tornado. Kennedy, who has worked at the funeral home for 40 years and owned it for the last 11 years, expressed his shock at the devastation caused by the tornado. Although he heard a tornado warning, he did not think much of it as there was minimal wind or rain at his home just four miles away.

Upon arriving at the funeral home and seeing the devastation, Kennedy expressed gratitude that no one was hurt in the tornado. Despite the damage, Kennedy emphasized that material things can be replaced and that the safety of individuals is paramount. He noted that friends and the Sunbright community have offered their support, which he appreciates.

Although it is uncertain when Schubert Funeral Home will reopen, Kennedy urged people to keep the community in their thoughts and thanked everyone for their support.
