Coaches in younger categories play a vital role in the development of children. Not only do they impart knowledge, but they also instill values such as fair play and sportsmanship in them. This makes their role even more important. Unfortunately, some coaches and parents fail to behave within the boundaries of common sense, which can have negative effects on the growth of children.
A recent example of this was seen during a basketball derby between Metalac and Radničko cadets as part of the Interregional Basketball League. In the first quarter, unsavory scenes involving players, parents, and coaches led to the match being interrupted. The coaches from both teams got into an argument and insulted each other, resulting in their exclusion from the game. This caused anxiety and disarray among the players, with some getting into fights. One player even suffered a minor concussion after being punched in the head.
The chaos did not stop there as the parents of the children joined in and some even fought each other. The match was ultimately stopped, and the police had to launch an investigation. Both clubs now face severe penalties for their part in the shameful scenes that unfolded during the game. Such behavior not only sets a poor example for children but also has serious consequences for those involved.
Coaches must understand that their role is not just about winning games; it is also about shaping young minds and teaching them valuable life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and respect for others
