Threads, Meta’s microblogging platform, has achieved a remarkable milestone of 175 million monthly active users just one year after its launch in the United States and subsequent expansion to Europe. This success comes despite initial challenges in complying with privacy regulations.
Initially released for iOS and Android devices, Threads operates independently from Instagram, featuring similarities in features and functionality. Despite these challenges, the app eventually launched in Europe in December. Offering capabilities such as text posts, link sharing, photos, videos, and reposting, Threads has introduced new features like saving favorite posts, storing drafts, real-time search filters, and direct messaging.
Meta has expanded the platform by launching a desktop application for Windows computers and trending topics to keep users informed on popular discussions. The rapid growth of Threads has surpassed milestones of 30 million and 100 million users within days of its availability. Although often compared to Twitter due to its similarities in functionality and features, Meta emphasizes that its goal is to create a public space for communities on Instagram that were not present on other social networks.
