Leaders call for improved mental health services following homicide in Texas county

The recent killing of a 21-year-old woman in Travis County has brought to light the need for improved mental health resources in the area. Several groups have emphasized this issue following the tragic incident, which was carried out by Keziah Titus, a 19-year-old who has been arrested on murder charges.

Titus’ arrest affidavit details a violent incident where she confessed to killing one family member, attempting to kill another, and planning to kill one more. She called 911 stating that her mission was to assassinate someone but it went wrong.

Court records show that Titus had previously been arrested in April 2023 on misdemeanor family violence charges. Despite being able to post bond and get out of jail within three days with one condition being mental health supervision, the specifics of the mental health resources provided cannot be disclosed due to limitations in resources by the County Attorney’s Office.

The office has highlighted the importance of having a mental health diversion center in Travis County to address cases like Titus’. As of now, there is no attorney listed for Titus but any updates on the case will be provided by KXAN.
