Kelvin Kiptum, 24, World Marathon Record Holder, Dies in Car Accident

In a statement, World Athletics president Seb Coe expressed his deepest condolences over the tragic loss of Kelvin Kiptum and his coach, Gervais Hakizimana. Kiptum was just 24 years old and held the world marathon record. Last year, he broke the course record for the London Marathon.

Kiptum’s death comes at a time when he was at the prime of his career, having secured significant victories and accomplishments. The Kenyan member of parliament, Gideon Kimaiyo, confirmed the deaths in a statement. He described Kiptum as a legend and expressed sorrow over the loss, offering condolences to the families affected.
