Sewell announces federal funding to bolster maternal health services

Today, U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell, AL-07, will hold two press conferences to announce a total of $9.2 million in federal funding that she helped secure for the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing and the Bessemer Police Department.

At 10 a.m. CST, Rep. Sewell will be joined by the Dean of the UAB School of Nursing and the Director of the Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) of Central Alabama as they present a check for $8.8 million over a five-year period from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Integrated Maternal Health Services Program. With this funding, the UAB School of Nursing will partner with the NFP of Central Alabama to increase access to maternity care and improve health outcomes for mothers and babies in underserved communities.
