In a shocking revelation, the Anti-Corruption Committee has exposed dozens of cases involving the illegal exchange of bribes for driver’s licenses. The preliminary investigation in criminal proceedings has implicated around 30 individuals as defendants, including a senior inspector from Armavir marz and his close friend.
According to the report, the senior inspector and his friend accepted bribes of various sizes from citizens applying for driver’s licenses. The amount of bribe money for each person ranged up to 400 thousand AMD. The investigation found that during 2023, the senior inspector, with the assistance of his friend, accepted formal theoretical and practical exams from around 30 citizens applying for driver’s licenses. They then created fake documents to issue licenses based on these exams, receiving a total of 6.5 million AMD in bribes from all the applicants that year.
However, it was discovered that in some cases, the candidates did not even participate in the exam. This led to many citizens obtaining driver’s licenses illegally, posing a danger to road traffic as noted by the Anti-Corruption Committee.
The senior inspector was charged with abuse of official powers and influence caused by them as well as official fraud. His friend was charged with receiving a bribe from a criminal. The case materials have been sent to court with an indictment.
