In 2024, the number of active licenses for companies in the United Arab Emirates increased by 12%, reaching a total of 896,000 companies compared to about 800,000 at the end of 2023. Limited liability companies experienced the most significant growth, with an increase of 7.6%, reaching a total of 269,100 licenses. Sole proprietorships also saw a modest increase of 3%, with a total of 234,060 active licenses. One-person companies experienced impressive growth of 21%, with a total of 120,326 licenses.
Furthermore, local company branches and branches of companies from another emirate also experienced increases in the number of licenses. Private joint-stock companies also saw an uptick in the number of licenses. The Ministry of Economy’s National Economic Registry reported that there were a total of 3,455 free zone establishments and 2,318 local establishments’ branches. Professional business companies and branches of foreign companies also saw increases in the number of licenses.
