In an effort to improve public transportation infrastructure in Jerusalem, the Joint planning team made up of the Jerusalem Municipality and the Ministry of Transport has released a tender for a feasibility study and preliminary design of three metro lines that are proposed for implementation in the Israeli capital. The goal is to have 8 tram lines operating in Jerusalem by 2030, but experts predict that this may not be sufficient to meet the needs of the growing population.
The tender states that the design work for the metro lines should be completed by the end of 2026, with construction tentatively scheduled to begin in 2040.
