Windsor Lake Closed Due to Harmful Algae Blooms Ahead of Fourth of July Celebrations

The town of Windsor has announced that Windsor Lake will be closed until further notice due to the presence of harmful algae blooms. This decision was made after recent testing confirmed the existence of these blooms, despite hopes that water quality would improve before the Fourth of July holiday.

The closure means that recreational activities such as tubing and water skiing on the lake will be prohibited starting from July 3rd. However, annual motorized permit holders can still access the lake during this time, while non-motorized boaters can do so at their own risk. It is highly recommended that they stay out of the water.

The town’s Fourth of July celebrations at Boardwalk Park will proceed as scheduled, but the swim beach, dog park, and watercraft rentals will be unavailable. In May, the town installed four LG Sonic MPC-Buoys on Windsor Lake to help combat harmful algae blooms. These buoys use ultrasonic waves to disrupt the algae, preventing them from getting the sunlight they need to grow. This initiative is part of the town’s efforts to address this issue in the lake.
