Steelers discuss with Cameron Sutton

Cornerback Cameron Sutton recently entered a pretrial diversion program to address a misdemeanor battery charge. Now, he is focused on finding a new team to play for in 2024. Sutton recently met with Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and General Manager Omar Khan, signaling his interest in returning to the team where he was a 2017 third-round pick.

After playing for the Steelers for several seasons, Sutton joined the Lions as a free agent last year. However, he was released by the Lions following a warrant issued for his arrest in March. During his time in Pittsburgh, Sutton accumulated impressive stats including 168 tackles, eight interceptions, two sacks, five forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery.

Sutton’s meeting with the Steelers organization suggests that he may be looking to return to familiar territory and rejoin his former team. As he navigates his legal troubles and looks for a new football home, Sutton is focused on making a fresh start and continuing his career in the NFL.

Sutton played college football at Tennessee State University before being drafted by the Steelers in 2017. During his time with the Steelers, Sutton established himself as one of the top cornerbacks in the league. He was known for his physicality and versatility on defense.

However, Sutton’s legal troubles took a toll on his career. In March of 2023, he was arrested on charges of misdemeanor battery after an altercation outside of a bar in Nashville. The incident led to his release from the Lions just weeks before training camp began.

Now that Sutton has entered into a pretrial diversion program, he is hopeful that he can put this chapter of his life behind him and move forward with his career. He has expressed interest in rejoining the Steelers organization and believes that they would give him another chance to succeed at the highest level of play.

As Sutton continues to navigate through these challenges both on and off the field, he remains committed to finding success as an NFL player once again. With impressive stats and talent on his side, there is no doubt that Sutton could make an impact wherever he lands next season.
