Iranian Citizen Convicted of Espionage, Sentenced to 12 Years in Baku Court

In March 2020, the Baku Court of Serious Crimes sentenced an Iranian citizen named Mohammad Gaedi to 12 years in prison on charges of espionage. According to the National Security Service of Azerbaijan, Gaedi “collected information containing state secrets on the instructions of the special services of a foreign state, to the detriment of the security of Azerbaijan, in particular, by obtaining personal data about Azerbaijani law enforcement officers, establishing personal contacts, involving them in cooperation.”
