Amanda Flann began her journey as a baker in January 2022, starting with a homemade sourdough starter. Her passion for baking soon led her to establish her own direct-to-consumer business, As Much As You Knead, which she runs from her porch. Through this business, she offers freshly baked goods for pickup and delivers them straight to customers’ doors.
As she bakes, Flann’s three-year-old daughter, Scottie, is always by her side. She believes that this time with her daughter is irreplaceable and wants to ensure that she never feels like she’s taking a backseat to her job. In fact, Scottie loves helping out in the kitchen and even has a few favorite recipes of her own.
Flann started the business during what she describes as a challenging season of life. She found baking to be a therapeutic activity and wanted to start her own business so that she could spend more time at home with Scottie while still pursuing something creative. To this end, Flann offers sourdough-making classes where people can learn the art of bread making from scratch.
Last Mother’s Day, Flann offered pre-painted bread decorated with flowers as a unique gift for loved ones. This year, she and Scottie are preparing to hold a “Mommy & Me Sourdough Painting” class where people can create their own painted bread with food-safe paint and markers. Flann is excited about this opportunity to work alongside Scottie and teach others the joy of baking together.
The “Mommy & Me Sourdough Painting” class will take place on Saturday, May 11 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Poly’s Place Coffee. The cost is $45 per person and includes a freshly baked sourdough loaf for each participant to decorate with food-safe paint and markers.
